Tunis, April 16 (TAP) - The National Security Council, which met on Monday at the Carthage Palace, discussed a number of issues related to the country's internal and external security, as well as developments in the Palestinian arena.

According to a video released by the Presidency of the Republic on Monday evening, President Kais Saied said that Tunisia is currently experiencing a number of abnormal phenomena, such as the resurgence of violence using all kinds of bladed weapons, or the burning of rubber tyres and the throwing of stones to inflame the situation. "Their frequency is not a coincidence and must be addressed and the State's apparatus must have control over all the country's facilities," he added.

The President of the Republic also addressed the growing phenomenon of drug use in educational establishments, calling for an end to this phenomenon by tackling its causes and consequences and holding each party responsible.

In this context, he said that the aim of the recent increase in these phenomena is to undermine the State from within and fragment it into a series of provinces, as well as to damage society.

Commenting on the case of conspiracy against state security, the President said that "it is time for a fair trial for those involved in the case", adding that "the procedures have been respected, but the prolongation of the case in this way allows them to conspire against state security again from behind bars".

"Money continues to flow from abroad to the conspirators through associations," Saied pointed out, adding that one association with three current accounts received a sum of 780,000 dinars from abroad, in addition to a deposit of 1 million dinars.

Regarding the increase in irregular migration, the President of the Republic stressed that "Tunisia has done what it can, based on humanitarian values and the fact that these people are victims".

He also stressed that Tunisia would not fall victim to those who wanted to make it a place of refuge for sub-Saharan migrants, and that it would not be a place of transit or settlement.

He pointed out that those who conspired since 2017 to make Tunisia a settlement place for migrants, receiving millions in foreign currency, are still conspiring from abroad against the country's security. The President called on the organisations working in the field of migration not to just issue statements, but to lend a helping hand in solving this problem.

With regard to the disruption of the normal functioning of public utilities in the country and the frequent water and electricity cuts in several regions, he called for swift action to put an end to these disruptions, saying that "those responsible will be held fully accountable".

The President of the Republic added that the National Security Council (NSC) will address the issue of criminal reconciliation during its meeting, especially after the amendment of the relevant decree to give the NSC the power to decide on the files and then refer them to the Chief State Prosecutor.

"We do not want to victimise anyone, but the purpose of the reconciliation is to return all the money to the Tunisian people, without diminishing it, so that the perpetrators can then work within the framework of the law without being blackmailed as they were in 2011," he stressed.

He reiterated that there are people known to have links abroad who want to manipulate the livelihoods of Tunisians, pointing out that they must be brought to justice, especially since all information about them is available to all the authorities concerned.

"We will not accept that the troublemakers tamper with the homeland or dream of returning to their mischief by trying to disrupt and spread rumours," he added.

"Some foreign ambassadors should be invited to urge their capitals not to interfere in Tunisia's internal affairs," he said, adding that those who think they can impose their will on Tunisia are mistaken.

On the external front, the National Security Council discussed the evolution of the situation in the Palestinian arena and its entry into a new phase.

In this regard, the President of the Republic called for the need to anticipate future developments and take the necessary measures in the face of these rapid developments that the region and the world are witnessing.

In this regard, Kais Saied reiterated his commitment to the Palestinian people to regain all of Palestine and establish their independent state on all of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
