Tunis, Jan. 17 (TAP) - President Kais Saied chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Carthage Palace on Thursday.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of State stressed the need for all legislation to be in line with the spirit and objectives of the constitution, according to a statement from the Presidency.

He also emphasised the need for each official to feel the expectations of the people and work to meet them, finding solutions and looking to the future with new thinking and "the spirit of a fighter who places the supreme interest of the country above all else".

The President of the Republic spoke at length about the draft amendment of the Labour Code and the draft decree on sub-contracting.

In this context, the Head of State stressed that Tunisia was one of the first countries to abolish slavery and that historical responsibility requires that this form of slavery, disguised under names, be permanently absent from the country's legislation.

"Responsibility is a trust, responding to the demands of our people is a duty, and preserving the independence of our national choice is one of the most sacred duties and one of the heaviest trusts," the President was quoted as saying in the same statement.
