Carthage Music Days open : Innovative musical styles from different continents

Tunis, Jan. 18 (TAP) - The 10th edition of the Carthage Music Days was inaugurated on Saturday at the Opera Theatre of the City of Culture in a festive atmosphere celebrating innovative and renewed music from around the world.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Amina Srarfi, and a number of heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Tunisia.

The ceremony of the event that will run until January 24 featured musical selections from Italy, Spain and Tunisia, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the event.

It began with the Tunisian national anthem, sung by Mohamed Ali Chebil, accompanied on the piano.

In her opening remarks, Dorsaf Hamdani, artistic director of the event and head of the organising committee, said that the Carthage Music Days are a unique space that brings together artists and creators from different generations and cultures to revive the sense of music.

In the first part of the evening, the Italian band Ars Nova Napoli entertained the audience with rhythms from the popular music of southern Italy and the Mediterranean region, offering a performance that combines the authenticity of musical heritage with contemporary rhythms.

This was followed by a special performance by Tunisian artist Mohamed Ali Chebil, who, together with Jihed Khemiri, presented a musical piece that translated a mixture and variety of musical styles, combining originality and contemporaneity in an innovative and renewed artistic style.

In the second part of the evening, Spanish artist La Jose presented a unique performance that fused musical rhythms with the depth of Spanish culture. The show combined flamenco, folk, soul, funk and Latin American music.

Following the opening ceremony, festival fans will be able to enjoy six main concerts, including performances by Tarabband (Iraq, Egypt, Sweden), Si Lemhaf (Tunisia), Jordanian band Autostrad, Elida Almeida (Cape Verde), Palestinian-born rapper and composer Big Sam and Chakâm (Palestine, Iran, France), as well as more than fifteen performances highlighting emerging talents from different cultures and street performances programmed on Habib Bourguiba Avenue.
