Tunis, Jan. 23 (TAP) - President Kais Saied met Thursday at the Carthage Palace with Mauritanian Minister of Economy and Finance, Sid Ahmed Ould Aboh, in his capacity as special envoy of Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, carrying a written message to the Head of State. During the meeting, the President of the Republic expressed Tunisia's pride in the strong ties that have existed between Tunisia and Mauritania since the 1960s. He stressed Tunisia's desire to develop these excellent relations in line with the strong and sincere bonds of brotherhood between the peoples of the two countries, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic. He also spoke of the great stakes and challenges facing the African continent in the face of the rapid fluctuations that the whole world is experiencing today. The Head of State stressed the need for African countries to make an appointment with history, so that Africa can take its natural place in the world, overcome the effects of decades of colonisation, wars and crises, and dedicate itself to reconstruction according to new approaches that take into account the specificities of the continent and translate the will and choices of its peoples. The challenges facing Africa today, particularly in the economic and social spheres, cannot be tackled individually. They require a collective approach, with common thinking and new concepts, so that African countries can exploit their enormous human and natural resources in the way their peoples want and become actors on the international scene. In this context, the President of the Republic recalled Tunisia's pride in belonging to the African continent and its demand for an Africa for Africans. He recalled the suffering suffered by the peoples of the continent in the absence of a common vision to fulfil the dream of the founding fathers of the OAU, which today requires reading history, correcting the mistakes of the past and revitalising the African continent in order to open up a new path to build a better future for the African peoples. In a statement following the meeting, the Mauritanian envoy described relations between the two countries as "excellent", stressing that his country is "very happy with Tunisia's support and assistance on various occasions and in international forums". |
