(TAP) - "Hafedh Caid Essebsi and his entourage destroyed Nidaa Tounes party, forcing many of its activists and competences to leave," said Prime Minister Youssef Chahed.

In his speech on Tuesday night on the national television channel "Al-Wataniya 1", Chahed said "it is time to set up a process of reform within the party to allow it to regain confidence of Tunisians and its position as a leading actor in the service of the national interest ".

"The party is not what it was in 2013," said Chahed, adding that the current leaders of Nidaa Tounes led it from one defeat to another, starting with the loss of its position as first parliamentary bloc, besides its defeat in the by-elections in Germany and the last municipal elections in which the party lost nearly one million votes.

For Chahed the current leaders of Nidaa Tounes represent a brake against the unification of the Democratic community. "The different structures of the party are now blocked," he said, referring to the absence of meetings for more than two years.

"There are several questions about how to make decisions within the party," he said, adding that the decisions taken do not generally represent the point of view of the majority of party supporters, especially in the regions, within the structures and the parliamentary bloc.

"I mentioned the current crisis within Nidaa Tounes because it is no longer an internal affair, but it poses a threat to state structures," said Chahed, adding that this topic is "now a national affair, especially as the weakness of this party will have certain repercussions on the political balance and the democratic process in the country.
