(TAP)- A debate about the Dinar exchange rate regime will be set in motion in 2019 with a view to bringing about a radical reform, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) Marouane Abbassi told TAP.

The Governor Friday told attendees of the 33rd Business Days in Sousse the legal armory is obsolete and is paralysing businesses. There is need to enhance the latter' s competitiveness at home and abroad and encourage exportation.

He also said the inflation rate till November hovered around 7.4%, adding that the goal is to get it stabilised at this level till the end of the year.

Moving output back to its normal level and keeping the exchange rate at a reasonable level in 2019 are a conditio sine qua non to drive inflation back. 2020 will see the start of an effective curb on this inflationary trend.

The budgetary deficit will be stabilised at 5% next year, Abassi said. Conducive conditions need to be provided to bring it down to 4% in 2020, regardless of oil prices.
