(TAP) - President Beji Caid Essebsi has accepted the resignation of Chief of Staff Salma Elloumi Rekik presented to him on Tuesday, said a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

The President expressed his gratitude to Salma Elloumi “for the efforts she has made, wishing her success in her future career, recalling that the institution of the presidency of the Republic remains neutral and stands at equal distance from all political parties,” said the statement.

Salma Elloumi posted on her official Facebook page that “the social, economic and political situation has pushed her to resign, to devote herself to helping bring the progressive centrist family together, to unify its ranks and to end its fragmentation and division before it is too late.”

Beji Caid Essebsi had appointed Salma Elloumi Rekik as Chief of Staff on November 1, 2018. Previously Salma Elloumi was Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts in the governments of Habib Essid and Youssef Chahed.

Elloumi is a founding member of Nidaa Tounes.
