Everything is ready for the Ghriba pilgrimage, says Perez Trabelsi

(TAP) - Preparations for the Ghriba pilgrimage have come to an end, Perez Trabelsi, chairman of the Ghriba committee said in a statement to TAP.

This Jewish religious ceremony scheduled for May 22 and 23, 2019 coincides this year and, for the first time in 32 years, with the month of Ramadan, symbolizing the tolerance and peaceful coexistence that prevails between different communities on the island of Djerba, added Trabelsi.

Between 7,000 and 8,000 visitors from France, the United States, Russia and other countries are expected to attend this event, among them religious figures as well as journalists, which recalls the year 2010 reference year of Tunisian tourism, according to Khoudir Haniya, officer of the synagogue.

A first delegation composed of 44 people including regulars, arrived Wednesday for a stay in Djerba, until May 26.

Major works of maintenance and embellishment of the synagogue were conducted, in preparation for the pilgrimage of the Ghriba.

For the first time, giant screens will be installed to allow visitors to follow the various ceremonies and avoid the jostling during the Ghriba procession.

All logistical and security precautions are taken to ensure the success of this holiday which includes, in particular, in the agenda, an Iftar meal, says the chairman of the Ghriba committee.
