Hammamet capital of Mediterranean youth June 9 to 16

(TAP) - The city of Hammamet is the capital of Mediterranean youth with the seventh edition of the Mediterranean University on Youth and Global Citizenship that involves about 200 young people from some twenty Mediterranean countries, with the contribution of international and regional organisations.

 "The Mediterranean University is a privileged space for the meeting of young people from both shores of the Mediterranean and to discuss a number of issues related to youth affairs in general," Director General of the National Observatory of Youth Fouad Laouini told TAP correspondent on the sidelines of the opening of the seventh edition of the Mediterranean University on Monday in Hammamet.

He said the debate on these issues is organised in the form of a series of panels including "Political participation of young people", "Youth and the achievement of development goals" and "Youth, peace and justice".

The Hammamet meeting bringing together youth active in associations and a group of experts from 12 regional and international organisations will seek to achieve a number of results that can be used to set up regional and international programmes, based on of the foundation of the dialogue between Mediterranean youth in order to build a new future where young people play an effective role.

Mediterranean University on Youth is organised within the framework of the partnership between the National Observatory for Youth and the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe and several international and regional organisations, in particular the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Youth Council of Catalonia, the Youth Council, the British Council and the Model AU.
