(TAP) - "Tunisian businesses maximising the results of scientific research is a major challenge," Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Slim Khalbous Friday said during a conference held in Tunis on the contribution of training, research and innovation to digital transition.

Tunisia boasts highly qualified experts, research structures and a valuable scientific production which added value do not match expectations.

The conference on digital transition aims to deepen reflection about the strategy to be adopted to take advantage of the available know-how, the minister added.

Khalbous highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between the different ministries to better respond to new needs and creating research and development units between research structures and companies.

Vice-President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (French: UTICA) Hichem Elloumi said the challenge today is interaction between research, development and industrial production and universities and enterprises.

The reform of higher education and national education, in general, in a sine qua non condition for pushing for digitalisation.

Innovation likewise needs to be bolstered by means of promoting innovative startups and research and development initiatives, developing research and increasing partnership between universities, companies and research centres.
