(TAP) – Finance Minister Ridha Chalghoum and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Sabri Bachtobji met Thursday in Tunis with the European Union (EU) ambassador to Tunisia, Patrice Bergamini, accompanied by ambassadors from EU countries accredited in Tunis.

The Tunisian side considered that the inclusion of Tunisia in the list of non-cooperative jurisdictions in tax matters is an inappropriate decision and does not reflect the efforts made by Tunisia to comply with the international requirements regarding fiscal transparency, including its membership as an active member of the Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS).

The Tunisian side also recalled that all the data and clarifications relating to the compliance of the Tunisian tax system with the international standards of transparency, were presented to the technical services of the European Code of Conduct in the field of taxation.

In turn, the European side stated intention to make every effort to revise this classification as soon as possible, taking into account the strategic and traditional relations between the two parties, saying that this will have no impact on financial and economic cooperation programmes between Tunisia and the European Union.
